NYIT's Season Ends With NCAA Tourney Loss

North Andover, Mass. — The NYIT men's lacrosse team's season ended decisively in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

Top-seeded Merrimack defeated the fourth-seeded Bears, 24-6, on Saturday at rainy Warrior Stadium.

The defeat marked the end of the collegiate careers of seniors Shlomo Amar, Tom Brennan, Matt Chanenchuk, LeRoy Halftown, Anthony Herman and Ian Prate.

Merrimack (16-1) advances to host second-seeded Seton Hill in the semifinals next Saturday.

The Bears' season ends with a 13-5 record.

Two of those defeats came at the hands of Merrimack. The Warriors came to President's Stadium as the No. 1-ranked team in Division II and also defeated NYIT, 16-14, on Feb. 18.

Merrimack pounced on the Bears in a 14-0 second quarter on Saturday, turning a 4-2 lead after one quarter into a lopsided halftime score. The Warriors won all 20 faceoffs before intermission.
