NYIT Men's Lacrosse Earns NCAA Championship Bid

Indianapolis - NYIT men's lacrosse team will be one of eight from across Division II to compete for a National Championship, as the Bears were included in the bracket for the NCAA Championship on Sunday evening.

After winning their second straight ECC Championship on Saturday, the Bears (xx-4) will be in the NCAA Championship for the 11th time in program history and the second time in three seasons. A four-time National Champion, NYIT looks to end a 10 year title drought, having last been atop Division II in 2008.

NYIT earned the No. 4 seed in the North Region half of the bracket and will take on No. 1 Merrimack. The Warriors, champions of the NE10 with a record of 15-1, will host the quarterfinal matchup on their campus in North Andover, Mass. on Saturday, May 12 at 1:00 p.m.

The Bears hold a 5-3 advantage in the all-time series between the two schools. One of NYIT's losses in the series came earlier this season. Merrimack claimed a tight 16-14 win on NYIT's home field back on February 18.

The winner of the NYIT vs. Merrimack matchup will advance to the semifinals on May 20 against the winner of No. 3 Le Moyne and No. 2 Seton Hill.

The South Region half of the bracket includes No. 1 Lenoir-Rhyne, No. 2 Saint Leo, No. 3 Tampa, and No. 4 Colorado Mesa.

The winners of the two regions will face off in the National Championship game on Sunday, May 27 at 4:00 p.m. Gillette Stadium, home of the NFL's New England Patriots, will play host to the title game.
