Brookville, N.Y. - On Tuesday, LIU Post Director of Athletics and Recreation Debbie DeJong announced the hiring of Eric Wolf as the 10th head men's lacrosse coach in program history.
"We are excited to name Eric Wolf as our head men's lacrosse coach," said DeJong. "His passion for teaching the game is unrivaled. Eric has a strong commitment to a tradition of athletic success, while holding his student-athletes to a high academic standard."
Wolf arrives at LIU Post with a wealth of experience, serving as an assistant coach at the Division I level from 2009-17. Most recently, Wolf held the position of offensive coordinator at Harvard University, where he assisted in the day-to-day operations and guided the Crimson to an Ivy League runner-up finish in 2016.
Prior to his appointment at Harvard, Wolf served as offensive coordinator at his alma mater, University at Albany, for four seasons (2011-15). In that time, he guided the nation's top scoring offense in each of his last three years there and mentored the Great Danes to three-straight America East Conference titles.
In 2015, Wolf's offensive unit ranked as one of the best in Division I history, setting new national single-season records with 325 goals, 203 assists and 528 points. The Great Danes were the first Division I team since 1991 to post four-consecutive 20-plus goal games and scored in double digits in 18 of their 19 contests, averaging a Division I-best 17.11 goals per game.
He also coached the school's first-ever back-to-back Tewaaraton Award recipient and three-time AE Player of the Year in Lyle Thompson, who became the career Division I leader for points (400) and assists (225).
Then, in 2014, Wolf coached the program's first co-Tewaaraton winners: Lyle Thompson and Miles Thompson. They became the first pair of Division I teammates to amass more than 100 points in a single season, after tallying 128 and 119 points, respectively.
Lyle Thompson went on to win a plethora of accolades, including the USILA Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award (D-I Outstanding Player of the Year) and Lt. Col. J.L. (Jack) Turnbull Award (D-I Most Outstanding Attackman), while he, Miles Thompson and Ty Thompson all earned All-America honors for the second-consecutive year.
From 2009-11, Wolf had his first coaching stint as an assistant at Siena College. While there, he served as offensive coordinator and was in charge of day-to-day recruiting operations.
Under his watch, the Saints won their second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship and made the program's second NCAA Tournament appearance. Wolf's offense ranked eighth nationally at 11.44 goals per game and was fourth with a .338 shooting percentage, en route to a program-record 13-5 campaign.
In his three seasons, the Saints captured three MAAC regular-season titles and combined for 37 victories. Two of his players, Ryan Duggan and Bryan Neufeld, claimed MAAC Offensive Player of the Year accolades during his tenure.
"I would like to thank the LIU Post community for putting their faith and confidence in me to take on this leadership role," stated Wolf. "I also want to extend my gratitude to my family and friends, mentors, former players, coaches and support staff who I have been fortunate enough to have shared many great experiences with over the years."
Wolf also added: "The men's lacrosse program at LIU Post comes with a historic tradition. The alumni and coaching staffs have built a tremendous foundation here and I am honored and humbled to build upon that. Our main focus as a team will be on growth and development. We will aspire to be the best people, students, citizens and athletes that we can be. I look forward to getting to know the people within LIU Post, the alumni, and most importantly, the student-athletes. I am thrilled to be back home on Long Island and can't wait to get started."
Additionally, Wolf currently holds the position of assistant coach with the Israeli Men's National Team. In the 2014 World Games in Denver, he helped Team Israel to a 6-2 record and a seventh-place finish, including a 15-10 victory over Japan. The team only lost games to divisional opponents by one goal each, marking itself as one of the top teams in the tournament.
A native of Baldwin, Wolf played in 62 career games at Albany, helping the Great Danes to three America East Conference titles and NCAA Division I Tournament appearances from 2004-07.
Wolf graduated from Albany in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology.
