LIU Post and NYIT Earn Bids to NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship

Indianapolis - Two of the eight teams that will compete for a NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse National Championship come from the East Coast Conference. LIU Post and NYIT both were included in the bracket released on Sunday evening.

After winning their third straight ECC Championship tournament and fourth in a row overall, LIU Post (12-3) will be in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year and seventh time in the past eight seasons. The Pioneers will be the No. 3 North Region and will travel to take on No. 2 seed, Merrimack.

LIU Post and Merrimack have already met once this season with Merrimack coming away with a 12-10 victory on February 20 in the season opener for both squads. LIU Post leads the all-time series between the schools by a 4-3 margin, but Merrimack has won the past three meetings, all coming since the start of the 2014 season.

NYIT, who was runner-up to LIU Post in the ECC Championship after sharing the regular season title with the Pioneers, earns their first NCAA Championship bid since the 2013 season and the tenth in program history. The Bears (13-4) earn the No. 4 seed and a date with top seeded and undefeated LeMoyne. The Dolphins, champions of the Northeast 10 Conference, have an unblemished 17-0 record on the season.

This will be the first matchup between the two schools since the Division II National Championship Game, won by LeMoyne, in 2008. The Dolphins lead the all-time series by a 3-2 margin, with four of the five matchups coming in the NCAA Tournament.

The South Region bracket includes reigning National Champion and No. 1 Limestone, No. 2 Mercyhurst, No. 3 Tampa, and No. 4 Mount Olive.

The first two rounds will be on campus sites with quarterfinal play starting on May 14. The winners will advance to the semifinals on May 22.

The National Championship game will take place at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles, on May 29.
