Molloy's Dell'Aquila Promoted to Head Men's Lacrosse Coach

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - On Wednesday morning, Molloy College Director of Athletics Susan Cassidy-Lyke announced that Bernard Dell'Aquila has been promoted and named the new Lions' head men's lacrosse coach. Dell'Aquila had previously served as an assistant coach since 2013.

"I am excited to announce Barney Dell'Aquila as our new men's lacrosse coach," said Cassidy-Lyke. "I am confident that he will continue the positive work that has taken place in the lacrosse program over the last six years under Eric Petrullo. Barney's contributions over the last three years with our student-athletes made him a easy choice to take the helm."

"I'm excited to get the opportunity to be the next head coach here at Molloy College," commented Dell'Aquila. "The program has had a great last three years, doing good things on and off the field. I'm very proud of the academic record of our team, as well as the on-field record, including making the playoffs this past season. We're looking to continue that and not change the mindset. We're looking to do well in the classroom and perform as well as we have on the field."

Before coming to Molloy during the 2012-13 athletic year, Dell'Aquila was the defensive coordinator of the Walt Whitman High School varsity lacrosse squad for a season. From 2007-10, Dell'Aquila guided the East Meadow High School varsity lacrosse team -- a perennial Class A Tournament qualifier in his tenure. In his third season at the helm, he was honored as the Conference I Coach of the Year. From 2004-07, Dell'Aquila worked at North Shore High School as head coach of the varsity lacrosse team (2005-06), and head coach of the junior varsity football team (2004-07).

Since 1997, Dell'Aquila has served as a physical education teacher within the Hicksville Public School system. At the high school level, he has held positions of strength and conditioning coach (2000-04), defensive coordinator of the varsity lacrosse team (2000-03), and head coach of the varsity football team (2000-04).

Dell'Aquila earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from St. John's University in 1987 and a Master of Arts degree in Physical Education from Adelphi University in 1992.

Dell'Aquila currently resides in Greenlawn, N.Y.

Returning from last year and staying on as assistant coaches on Coach Dell'Aquila's staff will be Matt Sagistano and Kevin Catalano.
