Brookville, N.Y. - On Apr. 4, the LIU Post
men's lacrosse team will host its third-annual "Team Connor"
fundraiser, in conjunction with its game against Merrimack.
The event celebrates the courage and tenacity of children with
pediatric cancer on Long Island. As it has for the past two years,
the event will honor Connor Bradley; this year, Salvatore "Sal"
Trotta will also be recognized for his fight against Acute
Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The son of Frank and Dina Trotta, Sal was
diagnosed with leukemia in August of 2014, and like Connor, he is
being treated at The Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop-University
Hospital. Even while visiting the Center for treatment, both boys
walk in smiling and leave laughing, a true affirmation of their
resilience and strength.
Connor will serve as LIU Post's honorary captain for the afternoon,
accompanied by Sal, his esteemed co-captain, who is an avid sports
fan. Both the Bradley and Trotta families will be in attendance, as
well. In lieu of admission, the team and game-day staff will ask
for donations at the gate, which will be donated to the Cancer
Center for Kids as a tribute to Connor and Sal. There will be
raffles for baskets and prizes, in addition to a 50/50. A private
donor has offered to contribute $100 for every Pioneer goal scored,
up to a maximum of $3,000.
Since 2013, this event has raised nearly $14,000, with its success
attributable to the support and generosity of the LIU Post athletic
staff, its team members, families and friends, as well as neighbors
from the surrounding communities.
Come out and join us at the game to cheer the team on, and help
surpass last season's total of over $5,500! If you have any
questions, please contact Tim Bradley via phone at 516-232-7020, or
by e-mail (timothy.bradley@my.liu.edu). For further details and
updates on raffle prizes, please feel free to visit the Team Connor
Facebook page by clicking here.
