Miller and McDermott Repeat as Men's Lacrosse All-Conference Major Award Winners

Miller and McDermott Repeat as Men's Lacrosse All-Conference Major Award Winners

Central Islip, N.Y. - For the second straight season, NYIT junior attacker Luke Miller (Mastic, N.Y.) and senior long stick defender Danny McDermott (Vancouver, British Columbia) have been named the East Coast Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively. NYIT freshman goalkeeper Alex Seltzer (Plainview, N.Y.) earns both the Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Year honors. NYIT head coach, Bill Dunn, nearly makes it a sweep of the major awards for the Bears by sharing the Coach of the Year award with Dowling's Tim Boyle.

Miller makes it three years in a row earning a top award from the ECC, adding his second straight Player of the Year award to his Rookie of the Year campaign from his freshman season.  He was once again a scoring machine for the Bears by ranking second in all of Division II by averaging 5.33 points per game and first with 3.0 assists per game. On the season, Miller totaled 81 points on 34 goals and an ECC-leading 47 assists. Miller also contributed by ranking in the top-25 in the ECC with 36 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers from the attack position.

McDermott also repeats by winning the Defensive Player of the Year honor, after anchoring a NYIT defense that tied for the conference lead and ranks fourth in Division II by allowing only 7.0 goals per game. The senior scooped up 28 ground balls and racked up 31 caused turnovers to come in third in the ECC. His caused turnovers per game average of 2.07 currently ranks just outside the top-10 in the nation.

Seltzer makes it three different NYIT goalkeepers in as many seasons to take home the award as the position's best in the ECC. Seltzer was outstanding between the pipes for the Bears. He currently leads the ECC with 12 wins, a 6.62 goals against averaged, and a .616 save percentage, and also ranks third in the conference with 157 saves. Seltzer's name can be found on the NCAA leader boards as well, as his goals against average and save percentage both rank in the top-five nationally. Seltzer doubles up on the ECC major awards, also earning the Rookie of the Year honor for his remarkable season.

Like his players, NYIT head coach, Bill Dunn, has been named the ECC Coach of the Year by his peers for a second season in a row. Dunn led the Bears to a 7-1 ECC record for a share of the Regular Season Championship and an overall 12-3 mark. Dunn shares the award this year with Dowling's Tim Boyle. Boyle also led his Golden Lions' squad to a 7-1 ECC tally that clinched the top seed in the first-ever ECC Men's Lacrosse Championship and a share of the Regular Season title. Dowling finished the year with a 11-3 overall record under Boyle's guidance.

LIU Post leads the way with the most All-Conference selections with 10. NYIT is a close second with eight selections, while Dowling has six honorees.
