Zelesky, Nash & Scheetz Claim ECC Men’s Lacrosse Top Honors

Central Islip, N.Y. - Senior midfielder Joel Zalesky from Seton Hill has been selected the 2010 East Coast Conference Player of the Year.  Junior Zachary Nash from Mercyhurst was named Goalkeeper of the Year and teammate Brian Scheetz earns Rookie of the Year honors.

Zalesky paved the way to a 10-4 overall record for the Griffins’ 2010 campaign, leading the team in goals (44), assists (31), points (75) and ground balls (55).  The senior middie was a constant threat offensively, tallying multiple points in every game he played in, including ten games where he surpassed the five point mark.  Zalesky ranks third in the nation in points per game (5.36), fourth in goals per game (3.14), and sixth in assists per game (2.21).

Nash compiled an 11-1 record between the pipes for the Lakers this season.  The ¬¬¬junior amassed a 5.94 goals against average to rank second in the nation, allowing only 56 goals in twelve games.  He is ranked fifth in Division II in save percentage (.597), making double digit stops on three occasions, including a season high 17 save performance to preserve a Lakers’ victory over NYIT. 

In his stellar freshman campaign, Sheetz led the Lakers in scoring and assists, with 31 goals and 30 helpers for 61 points on the season.  He contributed two game-winning goals and tallied over five points in seven games while adding 22 ground balls on the season.  Scheetz is among the nation’s best, ranking sixth in Division II in points per game (4.36) and eighth in assists per game (2.14). 

Dowling College Head Coach Tim Boyle has been voted the 2010 Coach of the Year by his peers.  This year, Boyle guided the Golden Lions to an overall record of 12-1, including an 11-0 run to finish out the season and secure the program’s second at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
