ECC Men's Basketball All-Conference Awards Announced; Sischo Earns Fourth Straight Player of the Year Award

West Babylon, N.Y. – Daemen’s Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) headlines the East Coast Conference All-Conference awards announced on Friday afternoon with his fourth straight selection as the league’s Player of the Year. Rounding out the top honors were Sean Fasoyiro (Houston, Texas) of Daemen as the Defensive Player of the Year and Messiah Mallory (Watervliet, N.Y.) of Staten Island as the Rookie of the Year.

Sischo earns yet another Player of the Year honor as he wraps up one of the best careers in ECC and Division II history. This season, Sischo once again leads the ECC in numerous statistical categories. His points per game (22.4), rebounds per game (13.0), field goal percentage (59.4), field goals made (240), free throws made (122), offensive rebounds (116), defensive rebounds (234), total rebounds (350), and points (606) totals all are tops in the conference. His numbers rank him among the country’s best, as well.  His total rebounds and rebounds per game marks, as well as his total of 22 double-doubles, all rank first in all of Division II. His points per game total is just outside the nation’s top-10, as he currently ranks 11th. Sischo has also etched his name into the record books throughout his final season. The only player in Division II history with at least 2,800 points and 1,400 rebounds, Sischo became the ECC’s all-time leader in both categories. He’s moved up Division II’s all-time lists too, currently ranking 17th in points and fifth in rebounds. In addition, he became the all-time leading scorer for all NCAA men’s basketball programs located in New York State.

While Sischo has dominated on the offensive end, his teammate Fasoyiro was a menace on the defensive side of the court. Fasoyiro was the top defender on the Wildcats squad that led the conference in points per game allowed (66.8), field goal percentage defense (40.2), and three point field goal percentage defense (28.7). He also accumulated 25 steals and nine blocked shots, while ranking 10th in the ECC in rebounds per game with 6.0 from the guard position.

An eight-time ECC Rookie of the Week, Mallory was a constant double-double threat in his debut season. On the year, the freshman forward averaged 14.2 points and 9.7 rebounds per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field. He ranked among the top-10 in the ECC in all categories and finished second in rebounds per game behind Sischo. Additionally, Malloy led the conference with 50 blocked shots and ranked third with 1.9 blocks per game.

For the xxx time in his career, Tobin Anderson of St. Thomas Aquinas has been selected as the ECC Coach of the Year by his peers. Under his leadership, the Spartans finished 24-4 overall and 17-1 in ECC play to earn a Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.

The ECC also announced its Men's Basketball All-Conference teams on Friday. Four student-athletes - Fasoyiro, Sischo, Osbel Caraballo (Sr., F, St. Thomas Aquinas), and Demetre Roberts (Sr., G, St. Thomas Aquinas) - repeat as First Team picks.
