Daemen's Sicho Named D2CCA All-American

Albany, N.Y. - Redshirt sophomore center Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) of the Daemen College men's basketball team has been named to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-America Second Team, the organization announced this afternoon.

The 6-foot-9 Sischo becomes the third Daemen player to garner All-American honors since the program transitioned to NCAA Division II, joining past honorees Gerald Beverly and Torrence Dyck. Beverly was a D2CCA honorable mention All-America selection following the 2014-15 season, and Dyck earned honorable mention All-America honors from Division II Bulletin the following season.

Sischo, the 2018-19 East Coast Conference and D2CCA East Region Player of the Year, averaged 20.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game while leading Daemen to its finest season at the NCAA Division II level. The Wildcats posted a 24-6 overall record and made their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance. The team's 16-2 ECC record was tops in the league, resulting in the program's second ECC regular-season championship. The team's success also featured a combined 16 weeks of inclusion in the Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) top-25 national polls, rising as high as No. 10 (D2SIDA) and No. 13 (NABC).

Sischo is the first Daemen player to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds per game since Beverly (20.0 ppg, 12.0 rpg) during the 2014-15 campaign, and his 17 double-doubles are the most since Beverly recorded 19 that same season. He finished the year with 585 points (eighth all-time) and 283 rebounds (ninth all-time), ranking in the top-10 in team history for a single season, and also the most ever by a Daemen sophomore.

He also placed himself among the national statistical leaders this season, finishing sixth in double-doubles, 16th in rebounding average, 22nd in field goal percentage (58.6) and 34th in scoring average. The news of his All-American selection comes a day after he was named to the NABC All-District First Team.

"We are very happy for Andrew and all that he's accomplished this season," said Daemen head coach Mike MacDonald. "I think it's evident just how much Andrew works at his craft, and the accolades he's collected this year are a product of that sweat, dedication and determination. I have no doubt that Andrew will continue to hone his skills and strive for even greater achievements in the seasons to come."

The D2CCA All-America First Team includes Will Voorhees of Notre Dame (Ohio), Joey Witthus of Northwest Missouri State, Shaun Willett of Queens (N.C.), Amir Hinton of Shaw and Ryan Quaid of West Texas A&M. Voorhees was also named the D2CCA Ron Lenz National Player of the Year.

Sischo was joined on the D2CCA All-America Second Team by Daulton Hommes of Point Loma, Alex White of Findlay, Tommy Bolte of Concord and Jonathan Lawton of Florida Southern. D2CAA Third Team All-America selections included Marquill Smith of West Georgia, Cam Martin of Missouri Southern, Gage Davis of Saint Cloud State, Ryan Bruggeman of Southwest Minnesota State and Tim Guers of Saint Anselm.
