Rindge, N.H. – Redshirt-sophomore center Andrew Sischo of Daemen was named the East Region Player of the Year on Friday, headlining the 2018-19 NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA) All-East Region Men’s Basketball Teams, as selected by East Region Sports Information Directors from institutions and conference offices.
The East Coast Conference Player of the Year, Sischo will lead the 24-5 and fifth-seeded Wildcats into NCAA Championship East Regional play on Saturday night. The Guilderland, N.Y., native is averaging a double-double through the season’s first 29 games, as he has averaged 21.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, both of which rank second in the ECC. Sischo is shooting 58.5% from the floor (221-for-378), a figure which also ranks second in his league. He is the first sophomore in more than a decade to earn East Region Player of the Year accolades.
Molloy's Curtis Jenkins was the only other ECC standout honored with his selection to the Second Team. Jenkins, an ECC First Team pick and the league's Defensive Player of the Year, helped lead the Lions to their first-ever ECC Championhip this season. On the year he scored 18.2 points per game and added 7.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.1 steals per game.
The 2018-19 D2CCA men’s basketball All-America team will be announced on Tuesday, March 26. The five First Team members from each of the country’s eight regions are placed on the national ballot with NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors selecting first, second and third-team All-America honorees. The Ron Lenz Player of the Year will also be chosen from a list comprised of the eight Regional Players of the Year.
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
