UB Men Top Queens In ECC First Round

Bridgeport, Conn. - Sophomore D'Vonne Trumbo (Franklinville, N.J.) scored a career-high 19 points to lead all scorers on the night, and freshman Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) came off the University of Bridgeport bench to net a career-best 13 points and corral a game-high seven rebounds, as the third-seeded and host Purple Knights advanced to the 2017 East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Championship Tournament Semifinals on Saturday with an 85-74 win on Wednesday night over the number-six seed, Queens (N.Y.) College Knights.  UB is now 18-11 overall, and the Purple Knights move on to face the second-seeded Molloy College Lions on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Bridgeport's Hubbell Gym.  QC closes out is 2016-17 season at even 13-13.

Trumbo also chipped in four assists and two steals for the winners, and Camara was a perfect 4-for-4 for the floor and 5-for-5 from the foul line.

Senior Stefano Osuji (Voorhees, N.J.) and junior Carlos DeJesus (Bronx, N.Y.), each scored 13 points on the night for the winners, and senior Kyle Benjamin (Bronx, N.Y.) finished with 10 points on the night to give Bridgeport five players in double figures in the victory.  Benjamin also blocked four shots on the night.

The Purple Knights forced Queens into 20 turnovers off which Bridgeport scored a total of 25 points.  QC loss despite shooting a blistering 62.2 percent from the field as a team (28-of-45) for the game.

Marquis Roberts and Diego Maldonado led four Queens College Knights in double-digit scoring, as they tallied 14 points.
