Indianapolis, Ind. – For the second
straight week, the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team
was the only East Coast Conference member ranked in the NCAA
Division II Men's Basketball East Region poll, released on
Wednesday afternoon. The Purple Knights, who are currently a
half-game behind St. Thomas Aquinas at the top of the ECC
standings, maintains their No. 4 ranking.
Bridgeport, who have won five games in a row to improve to 20-6
(15-3 ECC) on the season, are looking to make their third
consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Purple
Knights have put together a strong resume for an at-large berth
should they not win the ECC Championship for an automatic bid.
Three of their non-conference wins were over teams currently ranked
in the region (No. 1 Southern Connecticut St., No. 5 American
International, and No. 6 USciences).
The Northeast 10 Conference had the most schools listed in the poll
with six (including the top three), while the Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference has three schools in the rankings.
The regional rankings will be released weekly on Wednesdays through
March 4. The top eight teams (three conference tournament champions
and five at-large berths) in the poll after the conference
championships will earn bids to the Division II Men's Basketball
Tournament.
