Indianapolis, Ind. – The University of
Bridgeport men's basketball team was the only East Coast Conference
member ranked in the first edition of the NCAA Division II Men's
Basketball East Region poll, released on Wednesday afternoon. The
Purple Knights, who are currently tied with St. Thomas Aquinas at
the top of the ECC standings, come in at No. 4 in the first
ranking.
Bridgeport, who has made the NCAA Tournament the past two seasons,
currently boasts an 18-6 (13-3 ECC) record. Three of their
non-conference wins were over teams currently ranked in the region
as well (No. 1 Southern Connecticut St., No. 5 American
International, and No. 7 USciences).
The Northeast 10 Conference had the most schools listed in the
poll with seven (including the top three), while the Central
Atlantic Collegiate Conference has two.
The regional rankings will be released weekly on Wednesdays
through March 4. The top eight teams (three conference tournament
champions and five at-large berths) in the poll after the
conference championships will earn bids to the Division II Men's
