New York, N.Y. - Molloy standout and ECC Player
of the Year, John Petrucelli has been named the All-Met Division II
Player of the Year, while ECC Coach of the Year, Steve Hayn from
Dowling, has been named the All-Met Division II Coach of the
Year.
A 6-4 senior forward from Hicksville, N.Y., Petrucelli led the
Lions and the East Coast Conference, and was eighth in the nation,
with 23.1 ppg. He was fifth in Division II with 692 total points,
shot 46.4% FG, and led the nation in both total steals (108) and
spg (3.6). He finished his career with numerous school records,
including 2,011 total points, most points in a game (39), and
single-season marks for points (692), made FG (243), ppg (23.1),
steals (108) and spg (3.6). An All-Met First Team selection in
2013, and Second Teamer in 2012 and 2011, Petrucelli was named
All-ECC First Team and ECC Player of the Year this past season.
Hayn, in his eighth year, helmed the Lions (22-7) to their first
20-plus victories in a season since 1997-98. Dowling posted a 16-4
mark in the ECC to earn top seed in the league playoffs. Hayn also
was named ECC Coach of the Year.
In addition, four other ECC standouts were named to the All-Met
teams. Darien Davis of Dowling and Vaughn Allen of LIU Post, both
ECC All-Conference First Teamers, were named to the All-Met First
Team. Davis finished second in the ECC behind Petrucelli with 20.9
ppg and 2.0 spg. Allen was a nightly double-double threat for
the Pioneers, finishing his career with averages of 16.6 ppg and
9.3 rpg.
Other All-Met honorees from the ECC include Second Team selections
Markus Moore of NYIT and P.J. Torres of LIU Post. Moore finished
10th in the ECC with a 15.3 ppg average and was a force in the
paint defensively averaging 8.9 rpb and 2.5 bpg. Torres tied with
Allen as the Pioneers' top-scorer with 16.6 ppg in his first season
at LIU Post.
The All-Met teams will be honored April 22 at the 81st NIT/MBWA
Haggerty Awards dinner at the Westchester Marriott, Tarrytown,
N.Y.
