“I am honored to be the first recipient of the Steve Bamford
Award for Distinguished Service to ECAC Basketball
Officiating,” McAleer said. “This award is very
special, but even more so because it is given in Steve
Bamford’s name.”
The Steve Bamford Award is presented to an ECAC basketball

contributions and provided outstanding service to the
Conference’s officiating bureau. Bamford currently serves as

Bamford served the Conference in a number of administrative
capacities, including two stints as Interim Commissioner
(2006-2007, 2012-2013) and oversaw the ECAC Officiating Bureau. He
managed a staff of 4,400 sports officials, 37 officiating
coordinators and coordinated of over 46,000 annual officiating
assignments during his tenure.
“Tim McAleer was an outstanding and highly respected ECAC
Coordinator in the Metropolitan New York region,” Bamford
said. “He was one of, if not the best coordinator we had
within all the regions. Tim was tough, held officials accountable,
to high standards and always had great relationships with athletic
directors and conference commissioners in the region.”
McAleer has been involved with intercollegiate men’s
basketball officiating for over 35 years. From 2004 through 2012,
he was the ECAC Metropolitan New York Men’s Basketball

Conference (MAAC) from 2005 through 2012 and was an evaluator of
officials from 2005 to 2013.
McAleer is also well respected in the officiating community on a
national level. From 2005 to 2011, he was an NCAA northeast
regional referee observer and an NCAA Elite Eight referee observer
for five seasons (2005-2011). McAleer was honored with the College
Basketball Officials of America (CBOA) John P. Nucatola Honorary
Lifetime Membership distinction in 2007 and served as the CBOA
President during the 2004-2005 season. In May of 2012, McAleer was
presented with the CBOA Russ Beisswanger Leadership Award.
