Kansas City, Mo. - East Coast Conference men's
basketball standouts Darien Davis of Dowling College and John
Petrucelli of Molloy College, have been named to the National
Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II All-East
Region Second Team.
Davis was a driving force behind Dowling posting a 20 win season
for the first time since the 1997-98 campaign. In 28 games, Davis
averaged 20.9 points per game for the Golden Lions. He was the
first player to top the 20 points per game mark for Dowling since
Angel Figueroa led Division II with 26.2 in the 2001-02 season.
Davis was also one of two players to top the 40 point mark in a
game this season, doing so on February 6 at Mercy College. He shot
48.4 percent from the field and finished in the top 10 in the
conference in field goals (194), three-point field goal percentage
(37.6), free throws made (133), steals (55), and steals per game
(2.0).
Petrucelli, the ECC Player of the Year, earns his second All-Region
selection after being named to the Daktronics East Region Second
Team last week. In 30 games, Petrucelli led the ECC in points per
game (23.1) and became the first player in Molloy's men's
basketball history to top 2,000 points in a career. He was a
standout on the defensive end as well, leading the ECC and all of
Division II with 108 steals and 3.6 steals per game. A well rounded
player, Petrucelli also finished among the top 10 in the ECC leader
board in field goals (243), free throws made (181), free throw
percentage (80.1), rebounds (230), and assists (92).
Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA
Division II, the 88 student-athletes and eight coaches who earned
