Albany, N.Y. – The 2011-12 Daktronics
NCAA Division II men’s basketball East All-Region squad has a
fresh look to it with nine of the 10 honorees making their first
appearance. The first team is made up of four seniors and a junior.
The second team is decidedly younger with two sophomores and a pair
of juniors joining a senior.
Senior guard Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, NY) has been named the
2012 East Region Player of the Year. He is joined on the first team
by junior guard Eric Jean-Guillaume (Stamford, CT) of Franklin
Pierce and senior guards Ahmad Harris (Linden, NJ) of Bloomfield,
Adelphi’s Robert Johnson (New Rochelle, NY), and Nigel Munson
(Washington, DC) of the University of the District of Columbia.
Bonneau, the lone repeat All-Region pick and the East Coast
Conference Player of the Year each of the past two seasons, stands
third in the country with a league-leading 22.3 scoring average and
is 36th nationally with 2.8, 3-pointers per-game.
The 2011-12 Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year,
Jean-Guillaume is averaging 14.8 points thanks to a league-best
47.2 shooting percentage (68-for-144) from the arc. He is also
third in the NE-10 with a 2.2 assists/turnover ratio. Harris, the
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Co-Player of the Year, set
the CACC single-season assists record this winter by handing out
210 (6.8) thus far. Harris is also pacing the league with 72 steals
(2.3) and a 2.92 assists/turnover ratio, the country’s
seventh best mark, to go along with a 10.4 scoring average. Johnson
is averaging 12.9 points for the Panthers and has been in
double-figures in all but five games that he has appeared in this
season. He has furthermore buried 84.8 percent (84-for-99) of his
free throws attempts. Munson, a first-team ECC All-Conference
honoree, is 29th in the country in scoring at 19.9 ppg and stands
eighth with a 6.5 assists average and 27th behind a 2.26
assists/turnover ratio.
In addition to the first-team, five other individuals have been
recognized. The Daktronics second-team All-East squad is comprised
of senior guard Wayne Mack (Paterson, NJ) of Merrimack, junior
guard Darian David (Bronx, NY) of Bridgeport, Dominican junior
center Cory Quimby (Otisville, NY), and sophomore guards Ellis
Cooper (Northampton, NY) of Franklin Pierce and Michael Holton, Jr.
(Portland, OR) of Saint Michael’s.
The 2011-12 Daktronics men’s basketball All-America team will
be announced in conjunction with the NCAA Division II Elite Eight
in Highland Heights, KY on Tuesday, March 20. The five first-team
members from each of the country’s eight regions are placed
on the national ballot with Division II SIDs selecting first,
second and third-team All-America honorees.
