NEW YORK - Led by First Team selection Stefan Bonneau of C.W. Post, three ECC men's basketball players were named to the 2010-11 All-Met Team by the National Invitation Tournament and the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
Bonneau, the East Coast Conference Player of the Year was the lone ECC representative on the First Team. In leading the Pioneers to the ECC title and a spot in the NCAA East Regional, Bonneau averaged a conference leading 18.9 points per game.
Queens' Khalil McDonald and Molloy's John Petrucelli earned spots on the Second Team.
Gage Daye of Bloomfield was named All-Met Division II
men’s college basketball Player of the Year Thursday for the
second straight season.
Gerald Holmes of Bloomfield was selected Coach of the Year.
Joining Daye on the 2010-11 All-Met first team: Richard Byrd,
Adelphi; David Akinyooye, Adelphi; Stefan Bonneau, C.W. Post; Devon
Young, Felician; Almin Harris, Dominican.
Named to the second team: Khalil McDonald, Queens; John
Petrucelli, Molloy; Ahmad Harris, Bloomfield; Leon Porter,
Dominican; Keon Williams, Pace; Brandon Whitaker, Concordia.
A senior guard from Newark, N.J., Daye led the Deacons and was
fourth in the nation with 23.9 ppg, and was 20th nationally with
5.4 assists. Named CACC player of the year for the second
consecutive season, he finished his career with a school record
2,518 points.
Holmes guided Bloomfield (24-9) to the CACC North regular season
title and the conference’s tournament championship before
advancing to the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time in school
history.
The All-Met awards will be presented Tuesday evening, April 26, at
the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, N.Y.
