Bonneau, Petrucelli, and Lans Headline Men’s Basketball  All-Conference Awards

Central Islip, N.Y. - Junior guard Stefan Bonneau from C.W. Post has been named the East Coast Conference Player of the Year, as selected by the conference coaches.  Molloy guard John Petrucelli has been named the 2011ECC Rookie of the Year, while Queens senior guard Lamonte Lans takes home the ECC Defensive Player of the Year honor.  

Bonneau has been an offensive force for the Pioneers, as he leads the ECC in scoring averaging with 19.1 points per game. A deadly shooter, Bonneau currently ranks tenth in all of Division II, draining 44.9 percent of his three point attempts.  A three-time player of the week, Bonneau has scored twenty-plus points in twelve games this season. He also topped the thirty point mark twice, including 39 in a game against Queens on January 8 that marked the highest individual scoring effort in the ECC this season.

Nine-time Rookie of the Week Petrucelli has posted impressive numbers in his freshman campaign.  Petrucelli leads the conference in rebounding (7.0) and steals (2.81) and is second in scoring, averaging 15.7 points per game.  His steal total puts him in the top ten nationally, coming in at number six. He also recorded five double-doubles on the season, in two of which he scored a season high 34 points.  Petrucelli was also named First Team All-ECC this year.

Queens’ Lans takes home the inaugural ECC Defensive Player of the Year award. Lans, who usually guarded opponent’s best guard, was a mainstay for a Queens’ defense that ranks at the top of the ECC in field goal percentage defense. He was among the top rebounding guards in the conference with 4.6 per game, while also finishing eleventh in the conference in steals per game at 1.46.

Head Coach Mike Ruane from the University of Bridgeport has been tabbed Coach of the Year.  Ruane led the Purple Knights to a 18-8 overall record which garnered a first-place finish in the ECC and the number one seed in the ECC playoffs.

The ECC All-Conference Second Team members are:  Justin Brown (So., G, St. Thomas Aquinas), Msoo Ikyaator (Sr., F/C, Bridgeport), Jonathan Kohler (So., F, C.W. Post), Lamonte Lans (Sr., G, Queens), and Anderson Labase (Sr., G, Queens).

The ECC All-Rookie Team is comprised of Vaughn Allen (F, C.W. Post), Corwin Austin (G, Dowling), Chaz Morrish (G, Mercy), John Petrucelli (G, Molloy), and Colin Senior (G, Mercy).
