Bridgeport, CT-Junior Dave Boykin (White Plains, NY) scored a game-high 22 points and senior Demetrious Phillips (Baltimore, MD) has a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to help the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights men's basketball team defeat Division I Fairfield University in an exhibition game played at the Arena at Harbor Yard on Thursday night.
Boykin hit 9-of-14 field goals including 4-of-5 three-point shots in 35 minutes of playing time. His biggest three-pointer came with 2:24 to play, when his trifecta gave the Purple Knights a 66-64 lead which they never relinquished. Phillips went 7-of-11 from the floor grabbed a game-high 11 boards and also blocked three shots in 38 minutes on the court.
Junior Jermaine Washington (Philadelphia, PA) scored 16 points and hit 8-of-8 free throws, including hitting all six of his FT's in the final 1:10 to help ice the game. As a team, UB went 9-of-10 from the line in the last 1:44.
Senior Lee Frazier (Millville, NJ) rounded out the UB scorers in double figures with 12 points.
Guard Steve Martin (SR, Philadelphia, PA) dished out a game-high seven assists, as Bridgeport was credited with 17 assists on 26 made baskets.
The Purple Knights also outrebounded the Stags on the night, 43-35.
