Second-ranked C.W.
Post continued its winning streak with a 96-66 win over host
St. Thomas Aquinas last night.
Nick Carter (23 points) led five Post players in double figures.
Jonathan Schmidt added 15 points and had nine assists.
Post (17-0, 11-0 ECC) hit six consecutive three-pointers in the
first half to stretch its lead to 37-23 with 2:49 remaining in the
first half. From there, the Pioneers went on a 8-2 run to end the
half with a 20-point lead.
Kenny Burkes had 14 points for the Pioneers, and Kevin Spann had 13
points and five assists. James Tchana added 12 points.
"The more of us that get involved the better," said Carter, who
said the game had an element of a retribution. In all, the Pioneers
shot 64 percent from the field.
"Last year they beat us, and their crowd was cheering that we were
overrated," said Carter, adding the team watched the tape of that
game as motivation.
Post is next in action at against Mercy on Saturday. The Pioneers
trounced Mercy 105-43 in December.
Post is one of two unbeaten teams in Division II. Carter said the
Pioneers are not worrying about their lofty ranking and winning
streak as much as they are pushing the ball in transition and their
defense.
"We don't think about it," he said. "We play every opponent as if
they are ranked higher than us and better than us. We just play as
hard as we can and focus on our task."
