LIU Post Downs Bridgeport 11-5, Advances to ECC Championship Game

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The top-seeded LIU Post baseball team will play for the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship for the second time in three years after taking down the third-seeded University of Bridgeport 11-5 on day two at the ECC Championship at Angelo Lorenzo Memorial Field on the campus of the New York Institute of Technology.

Senior Michael Manzione had a stellar day for the Pioneers, tallying three hits including two home runs along with three RBI. Redshirt junior Andy Camilo also tallied three hits and one home run along with two RBI while senior Michael Greene had three hits and one RBI. Sophomore Christopher Wasson finished with two hits and two RBI and senior Anthony Vaglica contributed two hits.

Junior Noah Lorenzo earned his ninth win of the season, throwing a complete game, striking out five and scattering six hits while only allowing one walk.

The Pioneer offense started off hot, producing a three-run first inning. After a leadoff single to shortstop by Ciaccio, Wasson doubled to left center then advanced to third on the throw with Ciaccio scoring. A sacrifice fly to right field by Brehm scored Wasson then Manzione blasted a home run to left field, giving LIU Post a 3-0 lead.

LIU Post continued to pile on the runs in the top of the fourth and take a 6-0 advantage, with Camilo blasting a two RBI homer to left field and a sacrifice fly to center field from Ciaccio.

Manzione produced his second homer of the contest in the top of the fifth, sending the ball soaring over the center field fence for two RBI.

By the top of the sixth, Bridgeport had made it a 8-5 game but an RBI single up the middle from senior Reynaldo Guillen in the bottom of the seventh keyed a 3-0 inning from the Pioneers. Greene ripped an RBI double down the left field line then Wasson singed to third base to give the Pioneers an 11-5 edge which they held onto for the rest of the contest.
