Saints Drop Two in Day One of 2023 Crimson Hawk Classic Presented by the Hilton Garden Inn

INDIANA, PA - The D'Youville University Women's Volleyball Team began their weekend tournament with back-to-back games played at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

 The Saints (2-8, 0-0 ECC) fell to Frostburg State University 3-0 in their first game of the tournament and then dropped a game to Sheperd University 3-0.

D'Youville University 0 vs Frostburg State University – Game One (18-25, 9-25, 16-25)
First Set
The Bobcats took the early lead in game the first set, but the Saints stayed close. Frostburg State managed a six-point run to bring the score to 16-7. The Saints continued to fight as Madeline O'Brien (East Amherst, N.Y.) delivered to services aces in a row to keep the set alive. But it was not enough to stop the Bobcats and they would win the first set 25-18.

Second Set
The Saints took the lead in set, but the Bobcats answered with a nine-point run to reclaim the lead and would hold the lead for the remainder of the set winning 25-9.

Third Set
Giselle Ramirez (Miami, Fla. / School for Advanced Studies) started the third set with back-to-back kills to put the Saints up 2-0. Gameplay stayed even with the lead being exchanged, but with the game tied at six, the Bobcats would take the lead and hold it for the remainder of the set winning 25-16.

D'Youville University 0 vs Sheperd University 3- Game Two (25-23, 25-9, 25-19)
First Set
The first set of game two was the Saints best of the night. Sheperd took the early 2-0 lead, but the Saints came back with two kills from Giselle Ramirez and a kill and a service ace from Samantha Killane (Vero Beach, Fla./Lincoln Park Academy) putting the Saints up 4-2. The lead continued to go back and forth between the Saints and Rams until the set was tied at 16. Madeline O'Brien had the service ace that would put the Saints ahead at 20-18, but again the Rams came back to go up 24-21. Isabelle Prentice (Bainbridge, Wash./Bainbridge) had a kill to bring the Saints within one, but the Rams would win the set 25-23.

Second Set
Looking to rebound, the Saints jumped out to 4-3 lead, but the Rams would go on a six-point run to give them the advantage. The Rams continued with their lead and would go on to win 25-9.

Third Set
The Rams began the third set jumping out to a 14-8 lead, but the Saints fought back going on a six-point run ending with two kills from Emily Fischer (Grand Island, N.Y. / Mount St. Mary Academy) to tie the game at 14. The game would go back and forth, but the Rams would take the set 25-19 and the game 3-0.
 
Up Next
The D'Youville University Women's Volleyball Team will be back in action for their second and final day of the 2023 Crimson Hawk Classic Presented by the Hilton Garden Inn. The Saints will face-off with Jefferson University at 11:00am. After a break, the Saints come back to play Davis & Elkins College at 5:00 pm for their final game of the weekend.
