Dixon Scores as RV Women's Soccer Faces Southern New Hampshire

RINDGE, N.H. (Sept. 3, 2023) – Despite a goal from sophomore Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport), the RV Mercy University women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday night at Sodexo Field.

The Mavericks (0-1-1) suffer their first loss of the season and fall to the Penmen (2-0) for the first time since 2019.

Dixon scored her first goal of the season and junior Valeria Rodriguez (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./University of Bridgeport) dished out her first assist as a Maverick. Sophomore Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) made one save to take the loss.

Southern New Hampshire was led by Liv Gantelius who scored twice. Alyssa Anderson and Mikayla Thompson also scored. Claudia Keith made two saves to earn the win.

Anaya made a save in the 20th minute to keep the game scoreless. Thompson gave the Penmen a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute, off an assist from Georgia Greene, following a Mercy foul.

Gantelius netted her first goal of the game in the 30th minute to give Southern New Hampshire a 2-0 lead. The Penmen headed into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Anderson gave the Penmen a 3-0 advantage in the 55th minute and Gantelius found the back of the net for the second time in the 79th minute to make it 4-0. Dixon ended the shutout with her first goal of the season in the 85th minute, following an assist from Rodriguez, to make it 4-1.

Southern New Hampshire led the rest of the way and earned the 4-1 win.

Southern New Hampshire held a 13-6 edge in shots and a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. The Penmen also held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Interim Head Coach Jack Nicholson and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, September 6th when they host Dominican at 12:30 p.m.
