Wildcats Fall To Slippery Rock In Non-League Tilt

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Junior forward Arturo Pia Hernandis scored two goals to lead Slippery Rock University to 5-2 victory over Daemen University in NCAA Division II men's soccer action today at James Egli Field on the SRU campus. Daemen dropped to 1-4-1 on the year, while The Rock picked up their first win of the year and improved to 1-2-2.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Hernandis gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute and SRU took a 1-0 lead into the second half.
  • The teams combined for four goals in the span of four minutes early in the second half.
  • Daemen evened the game at 1-1 after junior Alex Aguirre (Miami, Fla.) converted a penalty kick at 51:31.
  • Hernandis netted his second of the game at 53:29 to give SRU a 2-1 lead, before Daemen evened the score once again following a goal by freshman Elijah Douglas (Clarence, N.Y.) at 54:58. Graduate student Derek Bartlo (Williamsville, N.Y.) assisted on the goal.
  • The Rock netted what would prove to be the game-winner at 55:23 when freshman Aashi Pandher scored to give SRU a 3-2.
  • SRU took advantage of a Daemen own goal to build a 4-2 lead and then secured the win when sophomore Altor Jorde scored with just under 12 minutes to play.
  • The Rock finished with an 19-14 edge in total shots, but just a 10-7 advantage in shots on goal. The visitors posted a 10-7 edge in corner kicks.
  • Senior Harry Firth (Reading, England) went the distance in net for Daemen and made five saves. Junior Adam Davies made five saves for the hosts.
