Wildcats Fall To Nationally-Ranked Golden Knights

ALBANY, N.Y. – Freshman Brielle Zink scored two goals, including the game-winner, to lead nationally-ranked College of Saint Rose to a 3-2 victory over upset-minded Daemen University in NCAA Division II women's soccer action tonight at Sullivan Field on the CSR campus. Saint Rose, which is ranked No. 3 in this week's United Soccer Coaches national poll, improved to 4-0-0 on the year. Daemen dropped to 0-3-0.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Daemen opened the scoring 15:13 into the contest. Sophomore Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) intercepted a back pass by a Saint Rose player just over midfield, raced around a Golden Knight defender and slotted a low shot into the far-left corner from 15 yards out. It marked the first goal of the year for Miranto, who earned third-team all-conference honors last year as freshman.
  • The lead did not last long, as the hosts answered just 42 seconds later. Saint Rose forced a corner kick off the re-start and junior Mia Klammer headed home the corner form graduate student Lauren Amerena. It marked the fourth goal of the year for Klammer, who earned all-America honors last year after racking up 12 goals and 39 points.
  • The Golden Knights took control with two goals in the span of 10 minutes early in the second half. Both goals came off long throw-ins by freshman Ella Wilson. Both throws landed in the Daemen box and were eventually headed in by the 6-foot Zink—the first two goals of her collegiate career.
  • Daemen made things interesting when freshman Magda Carpenter (Lebanon, Conn.) scored following a corner kick by senior Madia Zeitz (Malsh, Germany) with just over two minutes to play. It marked the first collegiate goal for Carpenter.
  • Saint Rose posted an 18-8 edge in total shots and a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. The hosts also owned a 16-4 edge in corner kicks.
  • Sophomore Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) went the distance in goal for the Wildcats and equaled her career-high with seven saves. Junior Pia Bozic played the first half in net for CSR and made one save. Junior Peyton Derouen played the second half and did not record a save.
GAME NOTES
  • Tonight's contest marked the fifth all-time meeting between the two schools. CSR has prevailed in each of the five meetings, including a 2-1 decision at Karrer Field in Amherst last year.
  • Carpenter registered a team-high four shots tonight and has registered a team-high 11 shots on the season.
  • Freshmen Amanda Nilsson (Malmo, Sweden) and Natalie Krelie (Bath, N.Y.) both saw their first collegiate action tonight.
