Firebirds Ousted by Griffins

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's women's lacrosse team fell to Chestnut Hill, 6-17, Wednesday evening at the Jackson Reed Field. The Firebirds fell to 1-4 on the season and the Griffins improved to 2-2.

Jada Williams led the Firebird offense scoring a team-high four goals on six shots. Alejandra Lainez-Rodriguez registered two points off a goal and an assist, while winning a game-high six draw controls, scooping a team-high four ground balls and forcing two turnovers. Natalia Perkins made a game-high 10 saves and Desiree Gaeckler forced a team-high three turnovers. Michelle Mitchell also scored a goal and dished out an assist. 

The Griffins scored the first three goals of the game before UDC's offense was able to strike back, with Williams sinking a feed from Mitchell with 11:20 to go in the first quarter.  Entering into the second quarter down by two, Williams went back to back on goals to even the score 4-4, with 9:54 remaining until half-time. The Griffins then went on a 6-1 run, that would give them a five point advantage going into the break.

UDC was left scoreless in the third quarter while holding Chestnut Hill to just two goals. The visitors went on another run in the fourth quarter that would secure their second victory of the season.

Up Next, UDC (1-4, 0-0 ECC) will head to New Jersey next Wednesday (15th) to face off against Caldwell University. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM.
