Wildcats Erupt For 6-1 Win Over CSI

Carpenter & Miranto Each Net Two As Daemen Moves To 2-0 In League Play

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's soccer team saw their offensive attack breakout in a big way as the Wildcats throttled the visiting College of Staten Island Dolphins 6-1 in an East Coast Conference tussle today at Karrer Field. Sophomore Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and freshman Magda Carpenter (Lebanon, Conn.) each netted a pair of goals to lead the way. Miranto also added an assist.

Daemen, which came into the contest averaging 1.0 goals per game this season, improved to 2-3-1 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play with today's win. It marked the Wildcats' strongest offensive output since a 6-0 win over Lincoln University in the penultimate game of the 2022 season. Today's game marked the ECC season opener for CSI which dropped to 2-1-3 overall and 0-1-0 in the league.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Carpenter opened the scoring at the 7:50 mark of the first half. After working a one-touch passing with Miranto, Carpenter's left-footed boot from near the top the box found its way to the lower right corner of the goal, putting the Wildcats ahead.
  • Miranto made it a 2-0 Wildcat lead at the 13:54 mark as she put home the rebound of an initial shot by Brooke Amato (Grand Island, N.Y.). Both Amato and Lauren Cuisia (Mississauga, Ont.) picked up assists on the play.
  • Miranto struck again several minutes later, netting her fourth goal of the season at the 21:39 mark off a feed from Tatyjana Scalisi (Williamsville, N.Y.). Sophomore Nevada Hahn (Lancaster, N.Y.) sent a pass to Scalisi, who then one-touched a through ball onto the feet of Miranto who beat the CSI goalkeeper, Sara Villacress, as she came off the goal line to challenge.
  • Less than five minutes later it was back to Carpenter's turn. She scored her third goal of the season at the 26:21 mark after getting behind the CSI defense. Amato and Ramone Trentin (Sãl Leopoldo, Brazil) were each credited with assists on the play as they passing led to Carpenter's freedom just inside the box.
  • CSI would get on the board with a tally by Julia Necka-Huptysiowska at the 50:53 mark, but Daemen would go on to add two more second half goals to erase any chance of a Dolphin comeback.
  • Demi McCalliog (Wolverhampton, England) found Brianne Repolio (Haddon Heights, N.J.) for a tally at the 59:20 mark. Repolio outworked two CSI defenders to get her foot on the ball, sneaking it past Villacress who was again off her line. It marked Repolio's first career shot and first career goal.
  • Maddy Erno (Tully, N.Y.) closed out the scoring with her first career goal at the 86:22 mark. More good passing in the Daemen midfield, this time from McCalliog and Gretchen Beyer (Williamsville, N.Y.) led to Erno busting into the box unscathed. Her shot from the right side of the box found its way into the upper far corner of the goal.
  • Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) went the distance between the pipes for Daemen, making 11 saves.
GAME NOTES
  • Daemen improved to 3-0-0 in the all-time series with CSI. The Wildcats have outscored the Dolphins 13-2 in those contests.
  • Daemen was picked fourth while CSI was picked eighth in the ECC preseason coaches' poll.
  • The Wildcats are now 11-6-1 at home since the start of the 2021 season.
  • Schultz has now made 23 saves in her last two games. She stopped 12 shots in Daemen's 1-1 tie at Chestnut Hill College earlier this week.
  • It marked the second multi-goal game of Miranto's career. She also netted a pair of goals in a 3-0 win against D'Youville University on Oct. 12, 2022.
  • For Carpenter, it marked her first career multi-goal game.
