Men's Basketball Matches Best Start In Program History At 14-2 With An 82-72 Home Win Over New York Tech
Purple Knights Remain Unbeaten In The ECC At 6-0 And Have Won 10 Games In A Row
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team matched the best season start in program history at 14-2 overall on Saturday afternoon at home, as five Purple Knights reached double figures and UB ran its winning streak to 10 games with an 82-72 East Coast Conference win over the visiting New York Tech Bears. Saturday's victory also keeps Bridgeport undefeated in conference play at 6-0. With the loss, New York Tech slips to 2-15 overall and 1-5 in the ECC.
The 14-2 start matches the Purple Knights beginning to the 1975-76 season.
Senior Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) and junior Hashem Abbas (Nablus, Palestine) led the Bridgeport offense on Saturday, as they each scored a team-high 15 points.
UB junior Nemanja Zubac (Becka Palanka, Serbia) had a solid all-around game netting 13 points, grabbing six rebounds, blocking two shots and dishing off an assists and making one steal.
Senior guard D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) had an impressive double-double with 11 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. He also added seven assists and was credited with two steals.
Junior Travis Robinson-Morgan (Elmont, N.Y.) rounded out the Bridgeport quartet in double-digit scoring with 10 points.
New York Tech's Jordan Fuchs led all scorers in the game with 17 points of the Bears' bench.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team hits the road for a three-game jaunt away from Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium beginning with a key East Coast Conference game at St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday evening. Tip-time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
