Spartans Clinch ECC Men's Soccer Regular Season Crown with 1-0 Shutout Victory at Daemen

Amherst, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team secured its second ECC Regular Season title in the last three seasons, with a 1-0 shutout victory over Daemen University on Saturday afternoon at Karrer Field in Western New York.

STAC improves to 9-2-3 overall and remains perfect in the ECC at 6-0-1. Meanwhile Daemen falls to 2-10-1 and 1-5.

The lone goal of the match came via the Spartans goals leader, Kevon Evans, who tallied his 10th of the season. In net, Calle Olle Petter Gunnarsson (9-0-3) earned his second straight clean sheet and fifth shutout of the year, having to only stop two Daemen shots over 90 minutes of action.

How it Happened

  • 53rd Minute: On a turnover by Daemen, Alejandro Zuniga sent a through ball up the sideline, where Kevon Evans took possession and send a shot to the lower left corner of the net, beating Wildcats keeper Harry Firth to make it 1-0 Spartans.
