CLARION, Pa. – The Roberts Wesleyan University women's soccer team earned its second consecutive road victory on Saturday, defeating Clarion University 2-1 in a non-conference match.
Sophomore
Alena Weibel opened the scoring for Roberts (2-0) in the fifth minute. Weibel ran onto the ball about 35 yards from goal, eluded the keeper and deposited a left-footed shot into the net from 20 yards out for her second goal of the season.
Freshman
Jenna Northup converted the eventual winner on a penalty kick for her first collegiate goal in the 54
th minute.
"I thought our team showed a lot of grit today," Roberts coach
Sarah McClellan said. "It was a tough road win and I was proud of the team to see it through to the finish. We are still learning and looking to improve our performance going forward."
Roberts held a 12-8 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in shots on goal.
Clarion scored its only goal on a penalty kick in the 69
th minute.
The Redhawks return to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday for a non-conference match at The College of Saint Rose.
