Pericet Scores Game Winner in 88th Minute to Lead Firebirds to Victory

GREENSBURG, PA- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team secured their first win of the season on a road trip against Seton Hill University, Sunday afternoon at the Dick's Sporting Goods Field. The Firebirds improved to 1-1 on the season, while the Griffins fell to 0-2.

Axel Gamez registered his first goal of the season, scoring the Firebirds first goal in the 64th minute with the assist from Vasco Irazola. The game winner, was fed to Ignacio Pericet from Mustafa Tahir in the 88th minute.

The first half left both teams scoreless, but the Firebirds managed seven shot attempts while holding the Griffins to zero. Gamez's goal in the 64th minute gave UDC a short lived lead as the Home team immediately responded with a goal of their own to tie the game 1-1. 

Both teams went back and forth for the next 24 minutes and just when it seemed the game would result in a tie, Pericet sunk the game-winner with a 1:60 left on the clock.

UDC had 13 shots and took eight corner kicks compared to Seton Hill's eight shots and zero corner kicks. 

Up Next, UDC (1-1) will host Slippery Rock University on Wednesday at Germantown. Kick-off is set for 3:00pm.
