Firebirds Defeat Cross-Town Rival Bowie State on their Home Court for the First Time

BOWIE, MD- The University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team defeated Bowie State University 91-88, to pick up their first road win of the season at the A.C Jordan Arena. This marked the Firebirds first ever win on Bowie's home court, since the two teams have been meeting annually since the 2009-2010 season. UDC improved to 2-2 on the season and BSU fell to 2-4.

Michael Aiken came off the bench to lead all scorers with 24 points, going 8-11 from the field and 3-5 from behind the arc. Juanye Colon wasn't far behind posting a season high 21 points, off of 7-15 from the field and knocking downa a team high four three-pointers. Jahmir Marable-Williams and Micah Campbell also contributed in the the double-figures with 12 and 10 points respectively. 

BSU got on the scoreboard first, but the half was filled with lead changes which ended in the Bulldogs favor taking the 43-39 lead going into half time.

Coming off the break, the home team opened up a nine point lead, but UDC couldn't be stopped as they scored 52 points, shooting at 60% from the field, knocking down 18-30 shots. Aiken scored 14 of his 24 points in the second half. With 6:47 remianing in regulation, Campbell put the Firebirds in the lead with a dunk. Both teams went back and forth with a couple ties and a few lead changes, but a clutch 3-pointer from Marable-Williams with just 2:12 to go, gave UDC the spark they needed to bring home the W. 

Next up, UDC (2-2, 0-0 ECC) will compete in the inaugural HBCU Challange this weekend, matching up against the host school, Lincoln (Pa) on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
