Women's Tennis Concludes Play At The Allegheny Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Daemen University women's tennis team opened its 2023-24 season by taking part in the Allegheny College Invitational this weekend (Sept. 2-3). The Wildcats competed against student-athletes from Allegheny, Juniata College, Oberlein College, Edinboro University and Walsh University. Daemen student-athletes took part in 15 singles matches and 11 doubles matches over the two days.

SINGLES RECAP
Daemen went 3-12 in singles play over the two days. Juniors Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) and freshman Maya Chon (Wichita, Kan.) all picked up wins for the Wildcats. Scime went 1-1 during the tournament. She defeated Marta Laska of Oberlein on Saturday, 6-1, 6-1 and suffered 6-1, 6-1 loss to Yasmina Mayer of Walsh on Sunday. Del Leon was the only player from Daemen to play three singles matches. She went 1-2 and capped her weekend with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Marina Zottele of Edinboro this afternoon. Chon kicked off her collegiate career with a 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 victory over Rei Etsumi of Allegheny on Saturday morning. Senior Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.), juniors Emily Jablonski (Alden, N.Y.) and Arianna Lysiak (Depew, N.Y.) and sophomore Dania Mehani (Amherst, N.Y.) also saw action in singles play for the Wildcats.


DOUBLES RECAP
Daemen went 2-9 during doubles action. Scime and Rubio competed in three doubles matches and opened the tournament with a 6-0 win over Celia Navarro and Medina Yessenaliyeva of Juniata. Del Leon and sophomore Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.) also played in three doubles matches and picked up a 7-5 win over Jean-Arlette Legrand and Emilia Grydnieva of Allegheny Saturday morning. The other doubles pairings for Daemen consisted of Mehani and Jablonski and Chon and Lysiak. 
 
UP NEXT
Daemen hits the road again next weekend when it travels to St. John Fisher University (Sept. 9) and William Smith College (Sept. 10) for non-conference matches.
