How it Happened

  • First Set - Match play started even between the Saints and Spartans on Saturday, but the D'Youville quickly found their rhythm jumping out to a 9-3 lead after three consecutive service aces. The hosts continued to push and jumped up to an even bigger lead of 15-5 after back-to-back kills. STAC fought their way back to tie the set at 23, but an error by the Spartans and a subsequent kill gave the Saints the 25-23 win in set one.
  • Second Set - The second set started out in the Spartans hands as they jumped out to a quick 11-7 lead. D'Youville worked to stay close and managed to take the lead at 21-19 after scoring seven consecutive points. The maroon and gold bounced right back, and the set became even with neither team able to take the two-point advantage. With the set tied at 28, another Saints Kill, combined with a Spartan error gave the hosts the 30-28 win in set two.
  • Third Set - Again, even play ruled to start set three, but the Spartans took the 8-6 lead. Back-to-back kills and a service ace gave the D'Youville the lead. The Saints would go on to expand their lead to 20-11 after a six-point run. After reaching match point at 24-13, a service error from the Spartans would give the Saints the 25-13 set win and the 3-0 match win.
