D'Youville Doubles Up STAC 4-2

Buffalo, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team made its way to Western New York for a Saturday afternoon East Coast Conference tilt with D'Youville University at Dobson Field.

Hannah Woodhouse recorded a pair of goals, while Laoise O'Haodha and Jeslyn-Brooke Vallesteros add to the total on the scoreboard, with the host Saints doubling up the Spartans by the score of 4-2. Rachel Brownell (5th) and Sophie Stanley (1st) tallied goals for the maroon and gold on the afternoon.

In net, STAC keepers Haley Liss and Catalena Robson played a half apiece and combined to stop four of eight shots faced. On the other end of the field Kallie Regan made two stops on four shots to earn the victory for D'Youville.

How it Happened

  • 3rd Minute: Hannah Woodhouse's unassisted goal, her first of two goals on the day, gave the host Saints and early 1-0 lead
  • 4th Minute: A through ball allowed Hannah Woodhouse to beat her defender and go one-on-one with a challenging Haley Liss at the top of the box. Woodhouse would put a soft shot past Liss and to the back of the net to make it 2-0 D'Youville.
  • 9th Minute: Laoise O'Haodha breakaway goal on a pass from teammate Hannah Woodhouse gave the Saints a commanding 3-0 advantage not even 10 minutes into the match.
  • 36th Minute: Off of a throw-in that found the head of Sarai Rodriguez, the ball would reach the foot of teammate Rachel Brownell who fired a shot to the top corner of the net near the right post, beating Kallie Regan to cut the STAC deficit to 3-1.
  • 72nd Minute: On a Spartans rush up field, a cross attempt by Jasmine Blue deep inside the box found the foot of Sophie Stanley for a soft tap-in goal past Regan to make it a 3-2 game.
  • 78th Minute: A STAC turnover led to a Hannah Woodhouse pass to Jeslyn-Woodhouse for a shot that partially deflected off of a defender, beating Catalena Robson high and at the left post to give D'Youville an insurance goal, 4-2.
