Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MEN'S SOCCER OUTLASTS BRIDGEPORT FOR SECOND VICTORY, 2-1

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team picked up their second victory of the season earlier today as they defeated the University of Bridgeport by a final score of 2-1.  The win improves CSI to 2-2-1 on the season while Bridgeport falls to 2-3-2.  The win is also the first for the Dolphins against Bridgeport in the history of the Men's Soccer program.

The Dolphins took the lead for good just 11 minutes into the game on the fist goal of the season for Raul Naranjo.  The score remained 1-0 all the way until halftime, but the Dolphins didn't waste much time before adding to their lead in the second half.  Less than 9 minutes after the break, Fortune Uzo scored on a shot from in close off a long through ball delivered from the midfield by Brendan Maguire.  CSI would do well to protect their two goal lead until the final minutes when they were forced to survive a late scare from the Purple Knights.

With just under 27 minutes to go in the match, Joao Miranda was ejected after receiving a red card.  This put the Purple Knights at a one-man disadvantage and left the Dolphins in prime position to secure the win.  The CSI lead remained intact until there was 3:30 remaining in the match when Kamrock Tovar scored on a powerful strike from well outside the penalty box.  Now leading by just a goal, CSI had a chance to put the game away moments later, but a shot off the foot of Naranjo missed wide from just outside the six-yard box.  In the closing seconds, Bridgeport would put together one final attacking play which saw a header beat Amari Thompson for what would have been a game-tying goal.  However, the attacker was ruled offsides and the Dolphins were able to clear one final time to end the game.

The Dolphins were outshot in the game 13-8, but only two of the 13 Bridgeport shots were on goal.  The goals for Naranjo and Uzo were the first for each of them, and the win for the Dolphins keeps them unbeaten at home.  Thompson, who has been vital to CSI's success on their home turf, has now allowed one goal or fewer in all three of CSI's home contests.

Men's Soccer will next be in action this weekend when they open conference play against Daemen University on Saturday at 1:30 PM.
