Men's Soccer Blanks D'Youville, 5-0

Buffalo, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team took its unblemished conference record on the road to Western New York, facing off with D'Youville University on Saturday at Dobson Field.

A five goal outburst led by Jalen Moni (2nd & 3rd), who scored twice, along with the ECC's leading scorer Kevon Evans (7th), Andres Gonzalez-Rios (1st) and Jerry Tagliavia (1st) kept the Spartans unbeaten within league play, as they rolled to a 5-0 victory over the Saints.

In net, STAC keepers Calle Olle Petter Gunnarsson and Gino Gandzior each saw action and combined to stop both shots faced over 90 minutes. On the other end of the field, Jake Marks made eight stops on 13 shots for D'Youville.

How it Happened

  • 38th Minute: Kevon Evans' rush down the sideline, allowed him to shake several defenders and move to the middle of the field. A shot from Evans glanced off of a Saints defender and went high, beating Jake Marks to under the crossbar to make it 1-0 STAC.
  • 41st Minute: A pass from Nicholas Sadorf, allowed a shallow from the corner by Andres Gonzalez-Rios to bend into the left side of the goal past Marks to give the Spartans the 2-0 advantage.
  • 53rd Minute: Jalen Moni's first of the match came on a feed from the left side of the box by teammate Christian Ferlisi, which allowed Moni to go one-on-one with the keeper and blast a shot to the back of the net to give the maroon and gold a commanding 3-0 lead.
  • 71st Minute: Moni tallied his second goal of the day, as he took a deflection from keeper Jake Marks and put it to the back of the net to make it 4-0.
  • 88th Minute: An offensive rush up field by the Spartans allowed Leandro Casar Useche to make his way around the Saints defense and send a shot to the net, which was tipped in by Jerry Tagliavia for the final goal of the contest, making it 5-0 St. Thomas Aquinas.
