Hillier Breaks Bentley RBI Record with 2-Run Walk-Off Double; Falcons Split Two Games

LEESBURG, Fla. – Graduate catcher Ella Hillier (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS) delivered a walk-off two-run double to give Bentley University a come-from-behind 6-5 win over Indiana University (Pa.) Sunday in non-conference softball action at Sleepy Hollow Field. The RBI were the 74th and 75th of her career.

In the Falcons' second game of the day, they had their six-game winning streak halted by D'Youville University, 6-3.

Against IUP, Bentley (6-2) went into the bottom of the fifth looking at a 5-1 deficit. They got two back in that inning, with sophomore left fielder Jordan Krause (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro HS) having an RBI single to short and sophomore designated player Dahlia Fink (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Notre Dame HS) picking up an RBI on a bases loaded fielder's choice.

Senior shortstop Katherine Noftall (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich HS) led off the seventh with a single and junior right fielder Kylee Amato (Bergenfield, N.J./Acad. of the Holy Angels) had a one-out single. Senior first baseman Kaylee Mankins (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS) made it a 6-5 game with a two-out single and Hillier drove in both Amato and Mankins with her double to center. It was her 33rd career two-bagger, second most in program history.

Junior Peyton Doiron (Beacon Falls, Conn./St. Joseph HS) earned the win with three innings of perfect relief. She struck out six of the eight batters she had.

Bentley's 12 hits included two apiece from Krause, Amato, Fink and Noftall.

Bentley again fell behind early against D'Youville, but this time couldn't catch up. The Saints scored three in the first and led 6-2 after four. They were led by senior catcher Hannah Bardeen (Amherst, N.Y.) with two hits and three RBI.

The Falcons finished with ten hits with Krause staying red hot. She had three hits, giving her five on the day, and raised her average to a sparkling .600. Included was a two-run homer in the third inning.

Amato, Noftall and senior center fielder Sam Petow (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) also had two hits for the Falcons.

On Monday, Bentley will play Saint Thomas Aquinas at 9 am and Purdue Northwest at 11:30.
