Landrum, Coira & Olivier Lead STAC To Sweep of Dominican

Orangeburg, N.Y. - Abbie Landrum's two-hit pitching led the way in the first game and Emilie Olivier's three-run homer in the second game paced St. Thomas Aquinas College to 1-0 and 7-4 wins over Dominican University today in non-conference softball action at the South Orangetown Little League complex.

The pair of wins against its crosstown rivals upped STAC's record to 18-13 while Dominican dropped to 8-26.

In notching her 7th win in 13 decisions, Landrum logged one of her best performances of the season. The sophomore righthander threw eight scoreless innings while retiring 12 batters in a row at one point. She allowed only four base runners and finished with nine strikeouts.

STAC pushed across the deciding run in the eighth inning on Adriana Coira's two-out RBI double over the right fielder's head to score pinch runner Amanda Demmerle.

In the second game, Olivier slugged a long three-run homer over the left field fence to cap a four-run seventh inning rally that erased a 4-3 deficit. Freshman teammate DeAnna DeCaro had tied the game earlier in the inning with a clutch sacrifice fly to center field. DeCaro and Eliana Raposo added run-producing singles while junior Tara Hagan also knocked in a run.

The Spartans return to East Coast Conference play on Tuesday (April 18) when they host Mercy College in a doubleheader that begins at 2:30 p.m.
