Evenly Contested Game Results in UDC Defeat, Against Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, NY - The University of the District of Columbia Men's Basketball team was narrowly defeated by Roberts Wesleyan College on Sunday evening at the Voller Athletic Center in Rochester, New York.

The Firebirds (10-15, 5-8 ECC), are still in the hunt for an East Coast Conference Playoff berth. But a frustrating loss to the Redhawks tonight was not in the script, as an even contest came down to fine margins in this match-up.

The first half was tight with both teams taking the lead, and with senior Zachary Olukanni once again finding excellent form hitting 10 points in the first half and 21 points in the game, the Redhawks took a slight advantage going into the second half.

UDC managed to pull the home side back, but the Firebirds will be rueing missed shooting opportunities early in the second period. Junior Cheyenne Nettleton made some crucial points in the second to give the Firebirds hope of victory against the gritty Wesleyan side.

However, UDC were up against the clock as the Redhawks kept a slender lead and managed to hold that lead to the final buzzer to make the final score 65-61.

The Firebirds will be looking to bounce back when they host Queens College, Wednesday, February 26th at 7PM. As well as honoring our seniors who are: Aaren Smith, Kerry Kirkwood, Consolo Adams, Isaiah Robinson, Kenneth Stancell, and Zachary Olukanni.
