Spartans Belt Four Home Runs in 20-10 Triumph At Staten Island

Staten Island, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team recorded eleven extra base hits, including five doubles, two triples and four home runs, en route to a 20-10 victory over the College of Staten Island on Monday at the CSI Baseball Complex.

STAC improves to 20-23 overall and 13-6 in ECC play, while CSI falls to 15-23 and 7-12.

STAC PERFORMANCES:

  • Andrew Guerra went 4-for-6, with two doubles, a home run, 5 RBI and 2 runs scored on the afternoon.
  • Gregory DiGiaro put together three hits in five at-bats, with two doubles, a home run, 5 RBI and 3 runs scored.
  • Christopher Conti (3-for-5) took CSI pitchers deep on two occasions Monday, driving in four runs and scoring three times himself.
  • Nick O'Connor (3-for-5) stroked a double and a pair of triples against the Dolphins.
  • Andrew Jemison, C.J. Cumbo, Kyle Lagrutta and David Potenza also provided six of the 19 hits for the Spartans.
  • Orin Winslow got the start for the maroon and gold on Monday and picked up a no-decision, pitching three innings and allowing seven hits and four runs (three earned), while walking three and striking out two Dolphins hitters.
  • Relievers Will Kindl, John Dezago, Jeremiah Vega and Jack Wilde were each tasked with keeping STAC in the game, and they did just that. The four Spartans combined to allow nine hits and six runs (five earned) over the final six innings, while walking one and fanning six. Dezago earned his first win of the season (1-3), for allowing only a hit and striking out one in two-thirds of an innings worth of work.

  • The Spartans posted 20 runs on 19 hits, with 1 error, while Staten Island earned 10 runs on 16 hits, with 2 errors.
