Spartans Score Four Second Half Goals En Route to 6-2 Victory At Bloomfield

Bloomfield, N.J. - A four-goal second half outburst by the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team, broke a 2-2 tie and propelled the maroon and gold to a 6-2 victory over Bloomfield College of Montclair State University on Wednesday evening at Foley Field.

STAC picks up its first victory of the 2023 season and moves to 1-0-2, while Bloomfield slips to 1-2 on the year.

How it Happened

  • Sixth Minute: A turnover by Bloomfield resulted in Kevon Evans carrying the ball up the left sideline, dancing through several Bears defenders, Evans' cross-field pass found Uhunoma Fredrick-Ilekhuoba wide open in front of the net where he fired a shot past goalie Matthew Brun to give STAC a 1-0 lead.
  • 20th Minute: A bad pass by the STAC defense allowed Cristian Marroquin to steal the ball and deflect a pass to teammate Matiss Zegele who put a shot in the top left corner of the net, past keeper Calle Olle Petter Gunnarsson to tie the game at 1-1.
  • 34th Minute: Off of a Bloomfield throw-in that was turned over to STAC, a series of passes would take place, with Alejandro Zunga's long ball into the box finding the head of teammate Nicholas Sadorf for a redirection into the back of the net via the right post to give the Spartans a 2-1 advantage.
  • 45th Minute: In the closing seconds of the first half, Bloomfield would knot the game at 2-2 via a free kick by Arsenios Demetriou that would sail into the box and be deflected into the net by Raynaldo St. Bernard.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas outshot Bloomfield by a 14-5 margin and earned two corner kicks to the Bears one in the first half.
  • 46th Minute: It would not be long before the Spartans would break the stalemate, as just 1:50 into the new stanza Nicholas Sadorf would score his second of the match via a long boot from Calle Olle Petter Gunnarsson to Kevon Evans, who would find Sadorf wide open at the front of the net for an easy shot to the top of the cage to make it 3-2 STAC.
  • 53rd Minute: Another Gunnarsson long strike to midfield would eventually find the foot Kevon Evans, who would dance around several defenders and put a shot right on frame, beating Jomar Vizcaino to extend the maroon and gold lead to 4-2.
  • 61st Minute: Following a long throw-in by the Spartans, Malik McGregor would get off an initial shot that would be stopped by Vizcaino. However, Alejandro Zuniga would scoop up the rebound and deposit it home to make it a 5-2 game.
  • 67th Minute: Alejandro Zuniga would return the favor to Malik McGregor on the game's final goal, as a throw-in would find the foot of Zuniga, who sent a soft pass to McGregor standing all alone for a quick shot on frame that would go in to increase the STAC lead to 6-2.
  • Tabor McDaniels would enter the game for St. Thomas Aquinas in the 73rd minute, giving Calle Olle Petter Gunnarsson some much needed rest with the game well in hand.
  • The Spartans would get six more chances to score in the final 16 minutes of action, but could not capitalize any further.
