Gamez Scores Two Equalizers to Force Tie in Conference Match Up Against Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's men's soccer team picked up a solid conference point on the road at Staten Island on Wednesday afternoon at Dolphin's Soccer Park. The Firebirds moved to 3-1-3 in conference play and the Dolphins moved to 0-3-3.

Axel Gamez scored both of UDC's goals, the first assisted by Santiago Gordillo Martinez and Jovani Orellana and the second came from a penalty kick.

The Dolphins struck first, just three minutes into play but the Firebirds were able to to tie the match 1-1 after Gamez' goal in the 16th minute.

CSI was able to take the lead 13 minutes into the second half, scoring their second goal of the day. Five minutes later, a Dolphin defender fouled Diego Meza- Baez inside the box, which led to Gamez' penalty kick goal and the final goal of the game.

UDC had the advantage in shots taken 8-5, and both teams took only one corner kick on the day.

Next up, UDC (5-6-4, 3-1-3 ECC) will compete at Mercy University for their conference regular season finale on Saturday. The game is slated to begin at 1:00pm.
