Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

DOLPHINS CAN'T HOLD EARLY LEAD IN LOSS TO GOLDEY-BEACOM, 3-1

Wilmington, DE - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team could not hold on to an early one-goal lead in today's match against Goldey-Beacom as they were defeated by the Lightning, 3-1.  Both teams end the day with a record of 1-2 as the Dolphins lose their second consecutive game and the Lightning pick up their first win of the season.  Goldey-Beacom also wins for the second time in two meetings with the Dolphins as they defeated CSI 5-1 two seasons ago.

The Dolphins struck first in the opening minutes of the match as Franklin Shehu scored on a header to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead.  The goal, which was assisted by Aiden Sivio, came following a CSI corner kick that led to a cross attempt into heavy traffic.  Just minutes later, Fortune Uzo struck the crossbar on a shot attempt as the Dolphins continue to assert control in the early going.  That continued through halftime as the Dolphins led in shots 7-3 and did not surrender a shot on goal through 45 minutes.

Less than one minute after the conclusion of the intermission, Goldey-Beacom leveled the score on a Cameron Michalak header.  Neither team would score for the next 35 minutes until the Lightning took the lead on a goal by Oliver Person in the 81st minute.  The Dolphins would manage just one shot the rest of the way, and Goldey-Beacom would add an insurance goal as they went on to win, 3-1.

Despite only being outshot by one in the game, the Dolphins surrendered 11 second-half shot attempts after allowing only 3 in the first half.  The Lightning also finished the match with 8 shots on goal to CSI's 4.  Getting his first start in goal for CSI, Nicholas Shields saved five shots and Shehu's goal was also his first as a Dolphin.

Men's Soccer will be back in action at home on Saturday as they face Bloomsburg University at Dolphins Soccer Park.  Kick off is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
