Dominant Pitching Performances Propel Trojans to Sweep of Lions

ANDERSON, S.C. – Three Trojan pitchers limited Lincoln University of Pennsylvania to four hits and just a pair of runs over 14 innings, as the Anderson baseball team opened an eight-game homestand by sweeping a nonconference doubleheader with the Lions, Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson improved to 6-8 on the season while Lincoln dropped to 1-6-1.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Game #1
Anderson 7, Lincoln 1
Senior centerfielder Justin Fox was 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of two-run singles and also reached base on a walk and scored in the first inning. Junior JC LeGrand added a single and a walk and scored a pair of runs in three trips to the plate. Junior James Hanvey posted a walk and also reached on an error, while scoring both times. Junior Jackson Van Ness reached base on a pair of walks.

Senior pitcher Trey Princiotto allowed just one earned run and gave up just two singles over six full innings of work on the mound, while striking out six Lions and walking just one. Junior Landry Borden walked one batter, while working the final inning in relief.

Game #2
Anderson 2, Lincoln 1
Sophomore pinch-hitter Brandon Gibbs led off the seventh inning with his second triple of the season and scored the winning run on Braeden Harrison's sacrifice fly to shallow left field. Harrison also posted a second-inning single, with Brayden Owens going 2-for-3 at the plate in the nightcap, while Mac Ketchin and Kye Andress also added singles.

Grad student Nathan Sanders notched the pitching staff's first complete game of the season and allowed just one unearned run over 7.0 innings, while fanning five batters and not issuing a walk. The righthander did not allow a hit until the fourth inning and didn't allow a Lion runner to reach scoring position until the sixth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
The Trojans scored a run in the first, two in the second and countered Lincoln's solo run in the top of the third with four runs to finish off the scoring for both teams.

Game 2
Just as he did in the opener, Fox led off the nightcap with a walk and moved to third on a wild pitch and a stolen base. The Concord, N.C., native crossed the plate two batters later on Jordan Montgomery's sacrifice fly to center field.

With Sanders shutting down the Lions' offense behind five consecutive 1-2-3 innings, the Trojans made Fox's lone run loom large on the scoreboard. But Lincoln finally broke through in the top of the sixth inning to knot the score at 1-1 behind an unearned run.

Gibbs led off the Trojans' final at-bat by lacing a line drive to straightaway centerfield and ended up on third base with no outs. Harrison stepped up and lofted a high fly ball to shallow left field, while Gibbs' tagged up and the throw was wide of home, allowing Gibbs to score the game-winner.
