Sanchez and Cruz Score in Firebirds Match Up Against the Spartans on Senior Day

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's women's lacrosse team fell to St Thomas Aquinas College 5-16, in their final game of the season, Saturday afternoon at the Georgetown Day School Field. UDC also celebrated three seniors, Jocelyn Cruz, Ana Sanchez and Desiree Gaeckler prior to today's match up.

Jada Williams netted a hat trick and Cruz and Sanchez both scored their first goals of the season. Tamaya Edwards picked up a team high five ground balls and Destiny Ryles forced a team high three caused turnovers. Natalia Perkins made a game-high 16 saves. 

The Firebirds were held scoreless in the first quarter as the Spartans went on a 4-0 run. Sanchez scored UDC's first goal in the second quarter wih 11:23 to go. Williams followed up with a goal of her own just a few minutes later to bring the score to 4-2. 

The next time the Firebirds saw the back of the net was early in the third quarter, when Williams scored on a free position shot. The Spartans extended the lead to 12-3, before Cruz scored her goal which was assisted by Alejandra Lainez-Rodriguez. The Firebirds final goal of the day came from Williams who also won a game-high nine draw controls. 

UDC ends the season with a 1-11, 0-6 ECC record.
