Spartans Score Early and Often in 21-6 Rout of Staten Island

Staten Island, N.Y. - Gregory DiGiaro smacked his ECC-tying and team-leading eighth and ninth home runs of the season, as the St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team recorded a second straight 20-run effort, routing the College of Staten Island 21-6 on Tuesday afternoon at the CSI Baseball Complex.

STAC moves to 21-23 overall and 14-6 in ECC play, while CSI slides to 15-24 and 7-13.

STAC PERFORMANCES:

  • Gregory DiGiaro went 3-for-3, with two home runs, 6 RBI and 3 runs scored on the afternoon.
  • Nick O'Connor put together three hits in four at-bats, with a double and a triple, RBI and 4 runs scored.
  • Justin Klayman (2-for-2) and Sean Lynch (2-for-4) drove in three runs apiece for the Spartans.
  • Andrew Jemison (two doubles), C.J. Cumbo (double), Andrew Guerra (double) and Alex Celeiro (double) also stroked extra base hits against the Dolphins.
  • Joseph Scamardella, Michael Zeis, Christopher Conti and David Potenza also provided four of the 20 hits for the maroon and gold.
  • Andrew Alameda took the ball for STAC on Tuesday, picking up a no-decision. Alameda pitched three innings, allowing six hits and four runs, while walking one Dolphins hitter.
  • Relievers Matthew Polemeni, Ricardo Gonzalez and Mateo Reyes were each called upon to close out the final four innings out of the bullpen. The Spartans trio combined to allow four hits and two runs, while walking two and fanning five. Polemeni earned his first win of the season (1-1), for allowing only a hit and a walk, while striking out three in two innings of work.
