UB Women's Basketball Grabs Final Spot in 2020 ECC Championship Tournament With A 76-62 Win Over Mercy
Senior Day Victory Means UB Will Travel To Either Molloy Or New York Tech On Wednesday
ridgeport, Conn.-Trailing 55-53 entering the fourth quarter, the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team put together one of its best 10 minutes of the season on Saturday afternoon in Hubbell Gym, as the Purple Knights stormed back to post a 76-62 Senior Day win over the visiting Mercy College Mavericks in the regular season finale for both teams. UB's victory combined with a loss by the University of the District of Columbia at St. Thomas Aquinas College this afternoon propels the Purple Knights into the sixth and final spot in this year's East Coast Conference Championship Tournament that will begin on Wednesday night. Bridgeport will travel to the number three seed on Wednesday night. Which will be either Molloy or New York Tech depending on tomorrow's results.
With the win, Bridgeport is now 6-22 overall and 4-12 in the ECC. Mercy wraps ups its 2019-20 season at 8-19 overall and 2-14 in conference play.
Junior Samirah Henderson (Rahway, N.J.) led four Purple Knights in double-digit scoring tying her UB career-high with 21 points, and Henderson also grabbed seven rebounds.
Freshman, backcourt mate Gracen Kerr (Ansonia, Conn.) added 20 points and four assists for the winners. Kerr hit 5-of-8 of her field golas and went 10-of 11 from the free throw line.
Senior Jaqualah Holliman (Boston, Mass.) reached double figures in her Hubbell Gym finale for UB with 11 points, and classmate Judit Valls Dellavalle (Barcelona, Spain) produced an impressive double-double with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Kellie Nudd led four Mavericks in double figures with 17 points.
